why the best gift is really nice sheets

PERLA powder with LIAM almond + WILLIAM slate grey

Gifts, however meaningful, often miss the mark.

The best gifts are the ones that are useful and disappear, things we consume. We eat cookies, burn candles, wash with soap, or smear creams.

How about something that's really useful and most people are skimping on?

A new set of sheets may not be the first thing most people think of when it comes to gift-giving, but they make a great present.

Since bed sheets are used by everyone without exception (hopefully), they're a present that can be used every night. That's a pretty unique gift. Sheets last for years, and get better with use as well.

HEATHER cement and heather heathered cotton bedding

HEATHER sheets are 100% cotton percale, neutral and classic.

AREA only uses natural fibers in designing sheets, so they're also a safe gift to give. Another area of importance to many these days are small companies that are ethical. Our high standards for environmental and labor practices have been in place since Anki founded the company in 1990.

Compared to clothing or other soft goods, bedding sizing is quite simple. Most adults sleep on queen, king or California king sized beds.  Pillows come in standard and king sizes, and though we sometimes come across a "queen" size pillow insert, king cases still do the job nicely.  See AREA sizing information here.

At AREA we make all kinds of neutrals and our designs complement each other. Since our sheets are supposed to mix and match by color, texture and pattern, you can easily find sheets that will work with existing bedding and decor (even site unseen). Here's some inspiration.

ANTON ginger, ivory and khaki washed cotton percale sheets

Made of 100% organic cotton, ANTON sheets are medium weight, breathable and fresh.

In times of stress, uncertainty, and hardship, one thing we can aim to give to each other is comfort. The health benefits of rest and good sleep are proven. Whether falling into bed exhausted, propped up reading, or just relaxing under the covers, everyone feels the positive effects of great sheets.

Sharing something you love is also a great gift. We have customers who've bought AREA sheets for decades. When they buy sheets for someone they care about, we generally hear about it when they come to see us themselves. It's always nice to meet new customers who have developed an appreciation for our sheets, or even better, have improved their sleep because they got our sheets as a gift.

PERLA powder, porcelain, slate sateen cotton sheets

Especially versatile PERLA sheets. A fine sateen cotton weave, supple and soft without holding in too much heat.

If you sleep in the same bed as the recipient of your gift, it can be very satisfying to pick out the sheets for you both relax into at night and wake up to every morning. We talked a little bit about a different way of sleeping together in a duvet of your own, if you're ready for it.

Here are some tips to help you make your selections. It's helpful to know the difference between cotton weaves and how to layer, but the truth is it's easy to give sheets that will be appreciated. But if you're still unsure, contact us.
